MY DREAM

The dream is not that you see in sleep, dream is which does not let you sleep” – Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

How true and how deep is this quote from the great scientist and former president of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. We all dream while we are asleep but the real dream – the dream which you wish to fulfill – the dream in which you have set your hearts on – will not “let you sleep”.

When I was a kid, whenever someone asked me as to what I wish to become, I would say “I wish to become a doctor”. As I grew up, my interests and goals started to differ, from doctor, it shifted to becoming an Engineer or a teacher.

After completing school, I was really confused as to what I really wished to become. My father and teachers at school suggested that I take up a degree course and go on to do masters. This would help me in taking up teaching as a profession. I was academically good but shy and timid. I would get goose bumbs even on standing in front of my own class. How could I become a teacher or professor was all I thought. But the trust my family and teachers had in me was more than what I had in myself.

I joined college for a bachelors degree in physics and went on to do masters in the same subject. Those 5 years at Women's Christian College, Chennai were the most memorable and life changing years of my life. My professors there transformed me from being shy to a strong and confident girl. There, I found my love for books, interest in writing and defeated my stage fright.

I would like to thank Geeta Ma'am, Sabitha Ma'am, Anna Ma'am, Mercy Ma'am, Bright Ma'am, Lakshmi Ma'am, Hannah Ma'am, Mallika Ma'am and all my professors at Women's Christian College for making me the person that I am today.

WCC moulded me and the advice that I got from my professors there are something I would remember all my life. As I came out of WCC, I could have taken teaching as a profession or got into research, but I had finally found my true calling -  writing and blogging. I had always wanted to start a blog and was finally determined to start one. Whether I would succeed in this field or not, I did not know and did not care, as I only knew that I have finally found a dream which would not let me sleep.
