MY CHENNAI

East or west Chennai is the best. Come rain or drought, Chennai will be my resort. Being a Chennaite, I love my city and according to me it is the best city in India. The main reason that makes Chennai special is its wonderful blend of modern and traditional values. Here people from all walks of life are connected to each other not by their religion, caste or creed but by their attachment to the soil. Chennaiites are so connected to namma Chennai that wherever we go we are drawn back to the city for its charm and beauty. For the past few years, Chennai faced a shortage of rainfall and we were preparing for a drought situation this year. The water levels in our houses had dropped to an all time low, the reservoirs were nearly getting dry and crops were affected due to inadequate rainfall. People very literally praying for abundant rainfall this year. And rain did come and it came in such a high volume and in such a short span of time that it took everyone off guard. The

TIPS TO KEEP OUR BABIES SOFT SKIN SAFE

source Once a new born baby enters the family everyone at home is ecstatic and the whole house vibrates with enthusiasm and joy. Babies have that charm in them that can even make a sad person happy. Their cute face, smile and antics are enough to brighten our day and make us happy. But with joy comes responsibility. And as parents it is our responsibility to ensure that our babies are safe, protected, and healthy and get a good upbringing. A baby’s skin is delicate and fragile and climatic changes, dust, Sun, etc may have a harmful effect on our baby's skin leading to infections. So it is necessary that we take adequate steps to ensure that our baby's skin is safe and protected. I am sharing below 5 things that can be done to keep a baby’s soft skin safe. 1. One of the most essential thing that has to be done to keep our babies skin safe is to ensure that there are no sharp objects near them. Babies are intuitive by nature and they often grab objects th

NO MORE FIGHTS FOR THE REMOTE

How many times have you missed an episode of your favourite TV show? For most people the answer would be “most of the time”. In this fast paced world, we are so hard pressed for time with our various responsibilities, commitments and work that we most often have to sacrifice our favourite TV shows and lament later about the missed episodes. Being a blogger who blogs on food, I am hooked to cookery shows on TV and look out for new ingredients, ideas and methods to improve my cooking and dish out new and interesting recipes in my kitchen. I also watch a couple of TV soaps regularly. And when I am just ready to switch on the TV, a knock on the door or a telephone call or some other interference make me miss my favourite cookery show or a serial of my interest. To make things worse, my one and half year old daughter and husband are always ready to grab the remote and keep me away from watching my shows. My husband likes watching news or Discovery channel and my daughter her favouri

HIGH SPEED MOBILE INTERNET WITH AIRTEL 4G

Technology is changing and changing for the better. Everything has become quick, fast and within our fingers reach. Smart phones have redefined the way we use Internet today. We can lie on our couch and easily video call our brother living overseas at the touch of a button, buy clothes or electronics online without stepping out and whats app our friends anytime and anywhere. But the only drawback that a smart phone has over a laptop or desktop is the speed. The internet speed in a broadband connection on our PC is much better than that in our smart phones. First we were using 2G where we had to wait long for the page to open. Then came 3G which had sufficient speed but was still not equal to a high speed broadband connection. But looks like this speed problem in our smart phones has finally found a solution. Airtel has just launched its fourth generation communication services 4G which promises to make high speed mobile broadband a reality. Airtel is the first telecom opera

SHORT STORY - AN ACT IN TIME

AN ACT IN TIME By Amina Khaleel Sunil’s parents were going to Delhi on a business trip. They had actually wanted to convert it into a family vacation, but since Sunil had his last exam that day, they could not take him along. They decided to leave Sunil under the care of his aunt, attend the business meet, cut the trip short and be back the next day itself. The vacation was put off for now. Even though they were a bit apprehensive of leaving their 11 year old son alone for the first time, Sunil was composed and relaxed and assured his parents that he would take care of himself. He wanted to prove to them that he was a responsible boy. The lure of the new video game that his father had promised to bring along on their return was another thing that excited Sunil. After his parents left for Delhi, he got ready, went to school with his aunt and wrote his exam. Since this was his last exam and holidays had begun, he spent the rest of the day playing cri

SHORT STORY - SIZE DOES NOT MATTER

SIZE DOES NOT MATTER By Amina Khaleel In the beautiful valley of Rabbitland lived Jumbo. Jumbo’s parents had migrated to Rabbitland in search of employment. They were employed at a popular tourist attraction “Ride an elephant” at a new amusement park on the outskirts of the city. They were well fed, paid a good salary and treated affectionately. They loved carrying young rabbits on their backs, eating bananas offered by visitors, playing with their trunks etc. But the only worry that was plaguing them was Jumbo’s education. Being illiterates themselves, they understood the importance of education, but the only school that existed there had refused to admit him because of his size and hence Jumbo was very upset. He missed his previous school, his friends and teachers miserably. He enjoyed studying and desperately wanted to go to school, but living next door to the school and yet not being able to go there made his pain unbearable. One day after his parent

NATURAL SCENERY FROM YELAGIRI

Nature at its best... Pics taken during visit to Yelagiri hills

GUIDE TO YELAGIRI HILLS

Yelagiri hills is a small hill station located near Vaniyambadi in the Vellore district of Tamil Nadu. It is serene and silent and the cool breeze in the evenings attract tourists from neighbouring areas to visit this place. The road leading to Yelagiri is well maintained and has 14 hair pin bends.  It is lined with beautiful trees on either sides and several honey combs and jack fruit and eucalyptus trees can be spotted. There are plenty of hotels and guest houses in and around Yelagiri but all the good ones get filled during weekends. It is better to book rooms in advance if you are planning to stay for a few days. It is better to have your own mode of transportation as it is difficult to find cabs or autos there. You can travel in your car or hire a cab. Even though PTC buses are available they are usually overcrowded. The main attractions of Yelagiri include the  Punganoor lake- cum park  and  Nature park .  Eateries are not aplenty here and drinking
